Art 101: Session 4

Hello! As you can probably tell, this is another post about my time in my college art class. If you are new, I make a post like this every week. The last few posts have been on Friday, but I am now changing it to Sunday! I am making my vambulance posts on Friday now, if you were wondering.

This session in my art class was about cross contour lines. Before this class, I didn’t really know anything about cross contour lines, but I had seen them before. If you don’t know, cross contour lines are basically a grid of lines drawn across an object to show the three dimensional properties and the flow of the object. I’m not sure how well I explained that, but I hope the pictures below will help.

Also, small side note, I am now including the versions of the pictures with labels on them. We have to put the labels on there for our professor, and I was thinking about putting them on the blog to make them easier to identify. I decided it was a good idea to put the labeled drawings on here just so you guys know exactly what they are.

Before we did the cross contour drawings, we had to do 2 more blind contour drawings, and those are right below.

This is an apple that I drew that had a lot of tiny dots on it and lines of different colors.

Also, I made a poll asking if you guys would like to see posts about my other college classes. There wouldn’t be as many posts for those classes, maybe one or two for each class. I would really appreciate it if you would participate in the poll, which is linked right here: Poll!

This is a pretty ripe banana, it had a bunch of dark marks on it and tiny dark dots as well.

I do think that my blind contours came out pretty well, but I know they aren’t easy to identify for people who don’t already know what it is. I wonder if in 5 years I’ll remember what these drawings are. I have versions of these pictures that are not labeled, so I would be able to do that.

With the cross contour drawings I had a much more difficult time doing them than I thought I would. I watched the online classes and videos and thought I had the concept down pretty well. However, when I started drawing the apple, it turned out to be really difficult. I had a hard time figuring out where the lines go and which direction they go in.

Here is my apple. I do really think this looks like an apple.

I also had a really hard time drawing the shoe, mainly because there were sections when I just drew a grid, which was something that we were specifically told to not do. I now realize that it meant we could not just draw a grid for a curved or unique shape, but drawing a grid for something flat is okay. I do now think that the shoe I drew looks pretty realistic, because I have taken a step back and taken a break.

This is one of my favorite shoes I have ever thrifted, and I’m glad I got to draw it.

I really do like how these drawings came out, and it gives me hope for practicing in the future. I still have to figure out a reliable way to motivate myself to practice things on my own though, or else I’ll never make any real progress.

Seeing these drawings again, that I did weeks ago, makes me miss how much easier these sessions were than the sessions that we are currently doing. We are currently on session 11 and I know it’s going to be really hard and tedious. I hope the outcome is good and that I’m proud of it. I haven’t been proud of some of my drawings and I really don’t feel good about that.

Anywho, on a lighter note, thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! The next post I make will be next Friday, and that will be a vambulance post. I’m super excited to keep making these posts and those posts, so stay tuned! I’ll see you guys in the next one!

Me, excited for the future.

P.S. If you guys cared about listening to me ramble about what I have in the works, this is the section for you! I plan on filming almost everything we do to the ambulance, maybe streaming it, and writing blog posts about it. There will be a lot of content in the future about the ambulance, so be sure to check back in to see more. Also, if you wanted to be notified any time I went live on my Twitch channel, here is the link for that:

My Twitch!

I don’t have that many followers on there yet, but I hope to gain a lot when I start streaming frequently again.

Also, if you guys did not participate in the poll from a couple posts ago or so, here it is again, just in case you wanted to answer it. This poll is about if you like these art posts or not. It’s completely anonymous, so I won’t know who you are when you answer. The link is right here: Poll!
