Music Tuesday! What Am I Listening To?

Hello! Here is another Music Tuesday post! I’m not sure how well these posts will do, since they are just general posts about the music that I’m listening to, but I really enjoy writing them, so I’m going to keep putting them out.

Please let me know what you think in the comments below. I read and respond to all of the comments that I get, and I really love interacting with you guys.

These posts do remind me a little bit of the first kind of Music Tuesday posts that I used to make. Those posts were me taking a week (not a long time) to listen to every single song that a certain band. That turned out to be way too much work for a single week, and I quickly burned out on that.

This reminds me of that because I am still trying to listen to certain bands before I make another post. It’s another responsibility that I have, but I do think that this way is a lot more manageable than the first way I was doing it.

I also think doing these posts this way, with a couple bands in mind that I want to listen to, creates more motivation to listen to more music. It’s always been hard for me to find the motivation to listen to new music, so I suppose that is a good thing.

Anyhow, I will get onto the music part of this music post now haha.

Kiss – I’ve known about this band for a very long time, but I had never really listened to much of their music. I knew all of the mainstream songs and all that, but didn’t know anything about them besides that. So, what do I think of them?

Overall, a lot of their music sounds very similar. I know this is a lot of bands, but I kind of expected the hits and the other songs to sound a bit different. I found a few songs that I really like, but didn’t feel very moved by most of it.

I am really excited to see them later this year, but I probably won’t know every word to every song. There is also a mini golf place in Vegas that is Kiss themed which I have been to a few times, and I really like that. Maybe after listening to them, I’ll have to go again and see if I can recognize any more of their music.

Also, my dad mentioned that they do not sound like they dress, and I can agree with that. I feel like today, they would maybe be considered rock/pop rock. The Internet says that their genre is rock/blues, and I am not sure I agree with the blues part at all haha.

Overall, I do like them, but I don’t love them. I do think I will be listening to a couple of their songs frequently, but nothing past that.

Mastodon – Out of honesty I do have to tell you guys that I did not listen to Mastodon purely because I just wanted to, but I mainly listened to them because I was going to a concert where they were going to be headlining and I wanted to know more of their music.

I do like the music, but this is another case of me liking a band, but not loving them. I don’t think I would listen to any of their music frequently, but it is good to vibe with every once in a while. They definitely are rock, maybe even metal.

If I’m being accurate, the Internet says that Mastodon’s genre is progressive metal/sludge metal. I actually saw a lot of genres, but progressive metal seems right and I like how sludge metal sounds when I say it in my head. I do really like some of their songs live, but none of them really caught me while I listened to them.

I would definitely go to another one of their shows, but I would have to brush up on their music before I did so. I really liked the atmosphere at the concert, and I really appreciate that. There are definitely some bands that do not have a great vibe at their concerts, which is not attractice to me as a concert-goer at all.

Overall, I like them, but do not think I will be listening to them without a reason any time soon.

Khemmis – Khemmis was opening for Mastodon, so I also only listened to them to learn the music for the concert. I did end up liking them a bit better than Mastodon at first, but after the concert, I think I like both of them equally.

They did seem a little bit more grindy when listening to them at first, but Mastodon turned out to have the same vibe. They do sound a little bit similar to Mastodon now that I’m thinking of it, but I do think Khemmis is more grindy metal than Mastodon, which, if you know me, I really like.

According to the Internet, Khemmis’s genre is heavy metal. I do think that this describes them well, but I think it’s a little disappointing that Mastodon gets so many descriptors, and Khemmis gets one, maybe two. I do think they deserve more recognition, and I know that just having one genre descriptor is being well known or not, but I do think they deserve to be a bit more popular.

Overall, there are some songs of theirs I would really like to listen to frequently, and I would definitely go see them live.

Yellowcard – This is a bit of a different band than the past 3, in terms of genre. I’ve known about this band for a long time, but I had only heard their most popular song, Ocean Avenue. I was pretty excited to listen to more of their music, but I was a bit nervous that it would be completely different than that one song.

However, I found out that most of it was pretty similar, which I really liked. The main genre for this band is alternative/indie, but I would agree more with the indie part of that. I would really like to get to know this band and their music more, since I really like a lot of their music.

I did not listen to them a whole lot these past weeks, so I would like to listen to them some more to really get a better feel of how much I like their music and how frequently I might listen to them in the future. This band makes me feel really good when I listen to them, especially their most popular song.

Overall, I would really like to listen to this band more, and I already have been listening to their most popular song for about 5 years at this point.

Those are the main bands I listened to this past couple of weeks, and I really hope you guys enjoyed reading about them. If you have any comments, want to share what you are listening to, or have any suggestions for what bands I should listen to in the future, please leave me a comment letting me know!

Also, just in case you were wondering, I will be making a post about the Khemmis/Mastodon concert, but not for a while. I have a lot of other Music Tuesday posts planned that will be coming before that, but I promise it is coming.

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! Every time you read one of these, I really do appreciate it, and I do have some very exciting things coming!
