Music Tuesday: GWAR Concert!

Hello! Here is another Music Tuesday post! I’m pretty excited for this one, mainly because it does involve my favorite band of all time, but also some other really cool bands I discovered because of this as well.

In this post, I will be writing about all of the bands that played at this concert, how I felt about them, if I’d like to see them again, and how I liked their music.

Here are my mom and I before the concert!

There were four bands at this concert, including The Native Howl, Nekrogoblikon, GoatWhore, and GWAR. I had heard of all of these bands, except for The Native Howl. All of the bands turned out to be really good and I’m so glad I went.

This concert was in San Diego, and I went with my mom. It was at the House of Blues there, and I had been to the House of Blues in Las Vegas before, so I thought I had a good idea of what it would be like.

The Native Howl

Here is the setup of the stage before it started, you can see GWAR’s drum set in the back

The first band that played was The Native Howl. I hadn’t ever heard of this band before, and they’re not very popular yet. They describe themselves as “thrash grass” which was very interesting. When they said that, you could really tell that the crowd was a bit apprehensive, but everyone really got into it once they got going.

The first song they played was a combination cover of two songs, one I don’t remember and the other was a Metallica song. They definitely live up to the genre of thrash grass, which I didn’t think I would like, but I really did.

I know this isn’t a very great picture, but it was the best one I took during their performance haha.

The band members were all very fun and put on a fun show. The band member that stood in front of us was a lot of fun and he made eye conatct and interacted with the audience a lot, and so did the other members.

I’m really glad I got to see them, and I would honestly really love to see them again, but I’m not sure if I will be able to. They also really deserve to take off and get super popular, but I feel like that is a matter of chance honestly.

Nekrogoblikon

Here is the stage before this band went on, I think it’s interesting how much stuff they have to move in between performances

I had heard of this band before, but they were not in the lineup prior to the show. I had no idea they were even going to be playing, so I didn’t listen to any of their music beforehand. I honestly was not prepared at all for what their show was going to be like, and I am so glad I was surprised.

They had a guy on the synthesizer who looked completely different than the rest of the band, and the lead singer looked like a really vanilla guy. The rest of the band looked pretty rock/metal, but those two looked pretty out of place haha. They put on a great show all together though.

There was also a guy dressed up as a goblin, which was so much fun. I had no idea they even did that and it really reminded me of GWAR in a way. Their music was a lot of fun and the voice that came out of that man was totally unexpected and so good.

I do think I would listen to their music outside of live shows, and I really would like to see them again. Like GWAR, they really do put on a show and an experience.

GoatWhore

This is the guy that stood in front of us during this performance, I really love how he is dressed but he was a little scary.

I had heard of this band beforehand, but I hadn’t listened to a whole lot of their music. I did listen to a little to be prepared before I went to this concert, but I didn’t really think it was my thing at first. I do think I would listen to their music again in general, but really only to get to know the songs better, and not really for fun.

The members of this band all came out in really hardcore metal outfits, which I absolutely love. I would love so much to dress like that, especially the leather gauntlets and things like that. I would honestly really like to revamp some of my wardrobe to be able to have outfits like that.

The lead singer is the one with the microphone, and he was doing a sound check in this

The show was so much fun, they put on such a good performance. The lead singer has super long hair, and it just looked amazing when he was singing and head banging. The other members of the band also really looked good, just totally in their element. They really know how to put on a show and I would absolutely love to see them again.

Here they are actually performing. You can see the singers hair under his arm and it’s so long.

I also recently found out that they have a lot of merch on their website that I really like, so I’d really like to get some of that as well. The designs and stuff are really cool, in my opinion, and I would love to have some eventually.

GWAR

This is the drum set for GWAR, I love it so much I can’t help it

Honestly, I was disappointed with this GWAR show. I still did really enjoy it, but this was not very similar to the other shows I had been to. The lead singer was absent, probably for good reason, but the show basically had a different vibe than it usually does.

Here is the band member we were standing in front of, I’m pretty sure his name is Pustulus.

It felt like there was less blood than usual as well, which was very sad. I was also next to two very obnoxious people for most of the show, which also spoiled it just a little bit. I tried my best to have a good of time as possible, but that made it very difficult.

The guy in the middle is my favorite, his name is Balsac and the Jaws O’ Death

I really did have a good time, but I do think I enjoyed the other parts of the show more. They did put on a nice, long show like usual, but it didn’t seem the same without the lead singer Blothar, but I don’t really blame the band for that.

I think it’s really funny how all the photographers have to wear ponchos to GWAR shows.

I do listen to GWAR’s music outside of live shows, and they actually just came out with a new album which I’ve been liking. I really love a lot of their music, but there is a whole lot to listen to haha.

Here we are after the show, covered in blood 🙂

I really had an amazing time at this concert with my mom, and I’d really like to see any of these bands again. In fact, I am going to a GWAR concert in Las Vegas later this year, which I am super excited for. I’ll probably be going with my mom to that one as well.

Anyways, that’s all I have to talk about today! I hope you enjoyed reading this post, and I hope to keep posting more and more interesting content!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I appreciate every single one of you, and I really hope to continue posting consistently for as long as I possibly can! I’ll see you guys in the next one 🙂

My hair has faded a lot since this concert, if you couldn’t tell.
