Ambulance – Getting it Road Ready

Hello! I have been getting the ambulance road ready for our first road trip so I wanted to share a bit of that with you guys! This will also be included in my most recent YouTube video, so make sure to check that out if you’d like to.

The first obvious thing is to make sure that nothing in the house of the ambulance is going to move around on the trip. This also includes the separator door that separates the cab and the house, which does not have a latch. It comes out a lot when we make turns, so we will have to secure that before we leave. I am planning on just installing a little hook latch that may or may not be temporary for right now.

There are also a lot of screws and stuff in the back of the ambulance that I would like to clean up. Any of these could become dangerous if we get into an accident or have to stop really suddenly. We have been working on the inside for a long time, so it is imperative to thoroughly clean everything out.

Another couple things I did were check the brake pads and check all of my liquids. I made sure there was enough oil and everything like that, and my brakes looked good as well. This made me feel a lot better already that I wouldn’t have to do any of this work on the ambulance beforehand.

Even though I am now a certified diesel mechanic, I still wanted to take the ambulance to my mechanic for them to do a safety check for my peace of mind. This is going to be my very first road trip in the ambulance and I really just wanted to make sure nothing obvious would go wrong.

They did tell me that my fan clutch was not operating correctly and that was why my A/C was blowing warm, but I did not have them fix that. They also told me that one of my clearance lights was out, but I am not too concerned about that right now either.

They did not find anything else wrong with the ambulance, so that also lent me a lot of peace of mind for the trip. I am very happy they did that and I think that part was worth the money since I plan on doing everything myself from now on.

Since we do not have any A/C right now in the ambulance, I plan on working on the fan clutch very soon. I live in the desert, and it has already started to get warmer so I would definitely like to do it sooner rather than later. I don’t think it is the biggest deal, since it isn’t going to be super hot for a while.

I am so excited to start taking trips in the ambulance, even though the inside is not completely built out yet. I’m excited to get used to driving it long distances and work on it at places that are not home. I’m actually not at all used to driving long distances, since the longest distance I have driven with me as the driver has been about two hours, and that was when I brought the ambulance 3 years ago.

That is all I have for you guys today! Thank you so much for reading, and you can always check out my YouTube channel as well if you’d like. I’ll see you guys in the next one!

  1. You’re moving right along! I wish there was a button for you to push that would magically finish the inside! You have a lot of work ahead of you to get it the way you want!LG
