Holiday Present Idea #3 – Sun Phase Cards

Hello! This is the third installment of the holiday gift idea series of blog posts, and it is going to be about something I call sun phase cards. I wanted to make a present that was a bunch of little presents, so this was what I came up with.

This is basically a bunch of tiny cards that I painted with watercolors and cut out of watercolor paper, and strung together at the end. On each of the cards, I painted the sun in a different phase. The first card was the sun rising, the second card was it rising a little more, and so on.

This was actually my first real time working with watercolors, and I had a lot of fun. They were both easier and harder to work with than I thought they would be, and I definitely want to use them again in the near future. With practice, I think that I can get really good at watercolors and make some really cool things and backgrounds for other paintings.

I am going to give this person one cards every day of Hanukkah, and then at the end, I am going to take all of the cards and string them together as the final present. I wrote a little note on the last card that I am going to give them, and I am really proud of how they turned out. If I had used acrylic paints, I do not think it would have had the same effect on the viewer as the watercolor paints did. Another idea I had for these was to write a little note on the back of every card instead of just the last one, but I am also giving this person other things, so I decided not to overdo it in this area.

I think this would also be a really cute present if you did different moon phases, or different seasons. If I really took the time to think about it, I could probably come up with dozens of ideas to do on these little cards, so they could really be perfect for anyone.

This is a really good present if you want to give someone something over a few or more days, or if you want to make them something both small and thoughtful at the same time. The person I gave it to really enjoyed it, and I think giving them a present that is a part of a bigger present at the end makes gift giving even more fun, and slightly more mysterious because they do not really know what the whole present is until receiving the last piece.

I’m not sure if I will write any more of these posts about gift ideas this year, but I will if I come up with any ideas that are worth writing a blog post about! If I do not post any more this season, I will definitely be posting more next year, and I will definitely start earlier so that you guys have enough time to make the ideas I have if you like them. Thank you so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey!
