Planned Income Streams for My Van!

Hello! The following is a list of all of the streams of income, both passive and active, that I plan on having while living in my van. I want my life while living in my van to be as no-responsibility as possible, so all of these things are geared towards that goal. This post is going to be separated into two parts, passive and active. Passive income is when you do not have to do a lot of work to make money, such as making money off of past blog posts, and active income is when you have to actually do things for the entire time of creating something to selling it, such as working in a job.

This post was chosen by you guys! Last week, I got 4 votes on my poll, and I decided that this post won! If you would like to participate in the poll for not next Wednesday, but the Wednesday after that, here is the link: Poll!

Passive

    Selling art –

Very recently, I got the idea into my head that I could start making and selling art. I realized this would be much more fulfilling than working a regular, minimum wage, 9 to 5 job, which was the plan up until I realized this. In the past couple of months, I have been setting myself up to start doing art full time after I quit my job. I have created a few things that I am going to sell, and I am hopefully going to run a promotion on Instagram to increase my following when I start selling my art. Hopefully, this will be one of my main streams of income in the future, and will make me a lot more than I would be making at my full time minimum wage job, even with tips considered. I think this is a bit of a passive stream of income, since after I make the art, there is not much work I have to do except put up the art on the Internet so people can buy it.

     Selling clothes –

One of the main parts of making and selling my art will be selling clothes that I alter and paint. I have already started doing this, and the profit margin is higher than on painted canvases and other similar things to that, so this will probably be a majority of the art that I sell, and I am excited to start doing that full time. This is also a mostly passive stream of income, since I do not have to do much after I make the clothes and put them up on the Internet for people to look at so they can buy it.

     Blog –

I am hoping to gain another following on my blog, which I will post things about my art, my van, and any other thing I find interesting enough to write about. Currently, I have been gaining a little bit of a following on my blog, and I have made a tiny bit of money from if, which I am really proud of. I did not really ever hope to start making money so soon from my blog. Even though writing the blog posts takes a while, I still do not have to do a whole lot of stuff to make money except promote the blog and post frequently.

     Streaming –

I have been streaming on Twitch for a while now, and I have found out that it isn’t super hard to gain followers on this platform. I am hoping to stream whenever I am doing art to increase viewer engagement, and hopefully receive some donations in the near future. This would not be a stream of passive income in the beginning, but I will try my hardest to get to the point where people can start subscribing to my channel, and that would be kind of a form of passive income, as long as I keep streaming consistently.

    Gaining a following –

All of these different social media platforms will all hopefully support each other. I will try and get all of these new people onto my art account on Instagram, so I can start selling more art to more different people without saturating the small Instagram market that I have already. Hopefully, all of my platforms will gain followers from one another, and this will help my streams of income become larger. This will mostly be a passive stream of income, since I only have to promote myself a little bit every once in a while to make sure that as many eyes as possible get on my content.

Active

    Patreon –

In the very near future, I really want to set up a Patreon for my art, and give a bunch of different tiers for people to choose from. I think this is a really good option to interact more often and easier with my fans, and I really like how some other artists have made their Patreons. I think that this is mainly an active stream of income, since I have to do something for almost everyone who pays for a tier of this service. There will be less work for the lower tiers, which I imagine that most people in the beginning will go for, but this would still be a lot of work if there were more than a few people paying for this.

     YouTube –

I have already started a YouTube channel, but I really want to put a bunch of timelapses of my art, vlogs, campervan videos, and general art videos up on my channel to gain a following and eventually start making a little bit of passive income from that as well. I enjoy making and editing videos, so hopefully this will be a good passive source of income for me in the future, especially when I am living in my van. Even though the income part is passive, I will still be frequently filming, editing, and brainstorming videos that I can put up, which I already know is going to be a lot of work on top of everything else I am going to be doing.

     Starting a podcast –

I would really love to one day have a podcast of my own that I talk about things that I am passionate about. Eventually, I think that this could definitely be a passive stream of income, but in the beginning, I think it would be a more active stream since you have to put in the work to get it started and promoted to your audience. This is a really cool idea to me, and I have been listening to more podcasts this year, and I think that it is a great way to start a conversation with people and inform people about things you like.

These are all of the streams of income that I have in mind so far, but if you have any suggestions of more ways that I could make money while living in my van, please leave them in a comment so I can find out more about them!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! If you would like to participate in the poll for not next Wednesday, but the Wednesday after that, here is a link to the poll: https://strawpoll.com/4qq74ck2f

  1. I found this bit of information, and it might be something you already know, but I thought I’d send it anyway:
“Ko-fi is by far the most cost-effective way to start making an income from fans of what you do. Unlike Patreon and other services, Ko-fi doesn’t take a cut of your donations and we don’t charge supporters extra either. The only transaction fee for donations is what the payment processors charge.”

    1. Thank you so much! I will definitely take that into consideration, since I do not know much about all the other similar kinds of services yet. I really appreciate the new information! Thank you for commenting!

  2. One of the many things I love about you is the hustle, you have so many ideas of ways you can make money and they just keep coming. I am really excited to see your twitch streams, youtube videos and the patreon posts.

    1. Thank you so much! That is so sweet and I love you so much. I really appreciate that! I am trying my hardest to make money on my own and not ever have to work for someone ever again! I’m excited to make all that kind of content in the future too!
