My Plan for Bettering My Artistic Skills!

Hello! Before we get into this post, I would just like to let everyone know that there is a new site page up! You can get to it at this link: Resin Pictures! It has all of the pictures I have uploaded of the things I have made out of resin so far. I will be updating it every time I upload new pictures, so be sure to check back every once in a while! I have also created a site page where I upload pictures of all of the paintings I have done, or have started! You can check it out at this link: Painting Pictures! I will also be updating this pretty frequently! It would mean a lot to me if you went to go look at it 🙂

This post is going to be about my simple plan to improve all of my artistic skills. Even though this plan is simple, I know that it will eventually take a long time to reach the level I want to in all of the skills I want to have. I have tried to have a schedule like this for my art in the past, but I did not have any specific plans like I do now.

The first step in my plan is to use Skillshare more frequently than I have. I have not used this program before, but I have purchased a year subscription to it. I know that there are a lot of useful classes on there for a lot of different skills that I would like to improve.

The concrete plan for this step is to take and follow one to two classes every week, at least. Even if I am just doing a little bit of practice, it is a little more than I was doing before and it is bound to help. I know that the amount of practice I am doing by myself right now is helpful, but this will be even more helpful. I am excited to start taking actual classes taught by people who actually know what they are doing instead of just going off of things I have heard or seen over my life.

The second step of this plan is the most ambiguous. I want to start practicing all kinds of art more often. At this time, I only work on a couple pieces every week, and I would like to improve this. The concrete plan for this step is to practice for at least a little bit of time every day, and for at least a few hours for 4 days a week.

I want to practice every day because I want to remember everything I learn and I want to keep my skills as sharp as possible. I know this is a little ambitious, but I am determined to make a living out of this. In order to do this, I absolutely have to dedicate time to practicing and learning new things. I want to better myself in this way so I am more likely to make money with my art.

The last step of this plan is to start experimenting with every kind of medium I can. A lot of artistic skills overlap into many different mediums. This means that if you can draw really well, you would probably be pretty good at painting, compared to someone who was not really amazing at drawing. There are so many mediums that I am interested in that I do not think this will be a problem.

The concrete plan for this step is to try one new thing every week. This does not have to be something drastic like painting a mural or carving a statue, but can be something simple like trying to use crayons or oil pastels to draw something interesting.

This could also include using a medium I am familar with with a medium I am not familar with, such as using wire sculptures inside of my resin art. I think this will be the most exciting part of my plan because I get to learn a bunch of new things and figure out what kinds of art I like the best.

I know that starting to schedule these things into my weeks will be difficult, because it has always been hard for me to follow any kind of schedule, especially schedules that I give to myself. I am going to try my best, and the goal to start this schedule right now is at the beginning of March.

This works with when I want to buy my van, which is preferably at the beginning of the summer of 2021. I want to be able to travel in my van and work on building it out all summer, even though I know it is going to be really hot outside. I’m not sure if I will actually make either of these goals, but I am going to try my best to make it!

This will help me both improve my skills and make more things to sell, therefore increasing my earnings over time due to this plan. I’m really looking forward to actually making a living off of my art and my blog, but I know that will take a while.

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I am so excited to be sharing my plan for progress with you guys! I’ll see you guys next time. 🙂

P.S. If you would like a custom ashtray, the general pricing for just color and glitter in my medium to small molds would be $15 locally in Vegas, and $20 if I am shipping it to you. This would be $5 extra if I am using a larger mold, since it takes more resin to make. The general pricing for color, glitter, and flowers or a picture or whatever else you want me to put in it would be $20 locally in Vegas, and $25 if I am shipping it to you. If you would like me to add a magnet in the bottom or the sides, that would be $5 extra. If you wanted something that had more stuff than this, the pricing varies.

  1. Practice is always key so I think starting with that is a good idea. I am so excited for you to experiment with all the mediums of art I cant wait to see what you are going to make next! I also think sticking to a concrete schedule is a great idea for you to do

    1. Thank you so much! I agree! I have always had a hard time keeping to a practice schedule, or really practicing at all. I’m also super excited to be experimenting with all of these new things. A concrete schedule is going to be really nice to have, but the real question is if I am going to be able to stick to the schedule or not! Thank you for commenting!
