Deciding What to Put in My Van Pt. 7 – Shower and Keeping Clean

Hello! This should be a familiar kind of post to everyone who has been around on my blog for a while! This is a post where I take a few things that I want to include in my custom van build, and I describe them in detail! I really like doing these kinds of posts because I get to share cool ideas that I have.

This post in particular is going to be about how I will shower and also other ways that I will be keeping clean while living in my van. I have a lot of ideas for both of these things, and I have been brainstorming all of these for about a year so a lot of thought has gone into these ideas.

The first thing that I will be talking about the shower. The first part of this section will be about the shower inside/outside of my van, and the second part will be how I will shower when that is either not available or I am choosing to not use it.

I know that a lot of showers in vans are inside of the van, walled off, little sections that take up a lot of space and are very heavy. This was not a viable option for how I wanted to build out my van. I want my van to have as much open space as possible and also to weigh the least amount possible to keep the gas mileage as high as I can while living in it.

Gas mileage is a really important thing to think about while living in a van because gas is very expensive, and vans already get bad gas mileage compared to other cars. The lighter your van, the higher the gas mileage will be. I am striving to keep my gas mileage as close to the stock mileage as possible.

So, since I will not have a shower that is technically inside of the van, where will my shower go? I thought about this a lot and I finally came up with the idea, with the help of my dad, to put a shower head with a detachable handheld head on the inside of one of the back doors of my van.

This is going to be one of those shower heads that you can also take down to use wherever you need to. It will have a tube connected somewhere on the underside of my flooring, where it will connect to my small plumbing system that I have developed. This will be really useful for showers, quick rinses, and rinsing off any other things I have.

The other option for showers that I will definitely be utilizing are gym showers. A lot of people who live in vans that I know about do have a gym membership and they can go in and take a shower whenever they want. This is most useful when the gyms are 24 hours, so you can go in literally whenever.

I know that this is going to be an added montly expense to my life, but I think it is worth it. Even if it was just a shower in whatever city I was in, I think I would still pay for it, but it is also a gym if I ever wanted to do some inside exercise. I will be doing a lot of exercise outside while living in my van, but it is going to be nice having this option as well.

The next thing that I want to describe to you is how I will be keeping clean while living in my van. I have already explained how I will be taking a shower, but there are a few other aspects of my van that I have not described yet. These include things like a sink and how I will clean my van.

I am planning on having a small sink with running water inside of my van, connected to my small plumbing system. This will be very useful when I need to clean up something, clean off dishes that are used, or rinse something off. It will be a little bit of a hassle to try and find a lightweight sink that will work for my van, but I am looking forward to the running water.

Even though I will be living in a very small space, while on the road constantly, I do not plan on keeping my van dirty. I would like to have a small vacuum in my storage, and other things like a broom. I want to keep my van as clean as possible because this makes me feel the most comfortable in a space.

There are a lot of other ways that I will be keeping clean inside of my van, like different kinds of chores like laundry, but I will include those in another blog post in the future about my ideal weekly schedule while living in my van. I have a lot of plans that will be included in this post!

This is the end of this post for now! If you have any suggestions about things to add to my van, please let me know down in the comments! I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me with these things before I start building out my van.

Also, if you are interested, I am having a giveaway right now! I am giving away 3 custom button pins for free, and all you have to do is go to this blog post: Birthday Giveaway! and enter your name in the comments. This giveaway will be going for a while, but be sure to join now!

I hope you all liked this post about more things that I will be putting into my van, because there are more on their way eventually! I will be keeping a more fixed posting schedule from now on, so stick around to see what those will be!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I appreciate you all sticking around even after my short break, and I will be sure to deliver more, new, fun material in the very soon future. I’m excited to be posting regularly again!

P.S. If you would like a custom ashtray, the general pricing for just color and glitter in my medium to small molds would be $12 locally in Vegas, and $4.25 extra if I am shipping it to you. This would be $3 extra if I am using a larger mold, since it takes more resin to make. The general pricing for color, glitter, and flowers or a picture or whatever else you want me to put in it would be $15 locally in Vegas, and $4.25 if I am shipping it to you. If you would like me to add a magnet in the bottom or the sides, that would be $5 extra. If you wanted something that had more stuff than this, the pricing varies.
