Hello! This is yet another, long delayed installment of Music Tuesday (on a Wednesday)! I hope you guys missed this kind of post, because it’s going to come back more often! This post is going to be about the band Suicidal Tendencies, who I have heard of before this. I had only heard one of their songs previous to this though.
The main reason this post took so long to come out is because they have so much music! They have released 14 albums which are all about an hour long, and several singles that are much shorter. I do not listen to music a whole lot every day, so this turned out to be harder to get through than I had originally intended. However, I did end up getting through all of it.
If you are new or have forgotten, or would even just like a refresher, the format of these kinds of posts is that I talk about the band’s history, then I pick out my top couple favorites albums, and then I list my top couple favorite songs from them. I do have an idea to maybe start reviewing one album at a time, but I do like listening to all of a band at once.

So, Suicidal Tendencies was formed in 1980 in California and they released their first album in 1983 and it was a huge success. This is still their most popular album out of everything, which is not that surprising to me anymore. When I first started Music Tuesday, I kept being surprised when a band’s first album was their most popular, but now I see the pattern.
They did take a short break in 1986, but they soon got back to making music and the band is actually still together. The last album they released came out in 2018, but there is news that they are working on a new album that is a follow up to one of their earlier albums. I will definitely be listening to that album when it comes out!
Favorite Albums
For my top albums for this band, I am only reviewing two. I found out very quickly after I started listening to their music that a lot of it was not really exactly what I liked. However, there were two albums that really caught my ear, as you might say. I know that since there are so many albums, at least 3 should have caught my attention, but it was really only these two that I found myself really grooving to.

Join The Army (1987)
The first album that I’m going to review is my second favorite of the two. This album is called Join The Army and I really loved it. I found a lot of songs in this album that I really vibed to. A lot of these songs were songs that I could sing and dance to in the future. The whole message of this album was mainly about war, feeling down, and acting “cyco.” I thought this was a great album, and even the first time I heard some of these songs I found myself really grooving to them, so that is a huge factor for me.

The Art of Rebellion (1992)
This album is pretty self-explanatory and also my favorite album of theirs. It is all about rebelling against the system and against society, and some of it even has some humor in it. There are a lot of songs in this album that I can relate to. In this case, this is a pretty different album than the rest of the band’s songs. A lot of these songs deifnitely have a more upbeat sound than the rest of their music, and I found myself really getting into that. There are actually a few songs on this album that I ended up loving, which was really surprising to me.
I really wish that I could say that I liked more of their albums with this kind of passion, but the rest of their music was just not doing it for me. I know that they do have a huge following, and I know that a lot of people do like all of their music, so I can appreciate that.
I know that I have a really specific taste in music sometimes, and sometimes I do not. A lot of their songs just did not resonate with me like I wished they had. I’m glad that so many people can enjoy their music more than I do, because that is what making music is all about.
For the top 3 songs that I liked from this band, I chose a new approach than I have had for past Music Tuesdays. The strategy that I used to have for picking out my favorite songs was simply to just try and remember them. However, I did not really like this method.
Plus, I wanted to be able to pick out all of my favorite songs from a band so that I could put them into a playlist later, and this past strategy did not allow for that. So, this new method that I have developed is every time I hear a song that I really like, to heart it in Spotify so it puts it in a list of all of the songs that I have ever hearted.
Now looking back at this list from this band, there were 10 songs that I really liked when I heard them, from 7 different albums. This makes it a lot easier to then listen to all of the songs that I liked and then pick out my top 3 favorites to write about in the Music Tuesday posts.
So, now for the big reveal of my top 3 favorite songs! I apologize for the long introduction this time, it was necessary! It was pretty difficult to choose these, since I liked several songs of theirs a whole lot.

Institutionalized (1983)
This is the only Suicidal Tendencies song I had heard before this, and I have always loved it. I was introduced to it by my mother at a very young age, so it definitely has a special place in my heart for me. I think this is a really great song and I have only grown to love it more and more over the years. The message of the song basically boils down to how can I be crazy when I went to your church, your school, and was raised by your system. This is a really fun song besides that, and I really love that as well. This is the band’s most popular song!

Choosing My Own Way of Life (1989)
This is a really great song that has a really good message, in my opinion. I also really like how the song sounds and how they put it all together. This song is basically about rebelling against the system and living the way you want to without listening to powers of authority who are telling you what to do. I think that is honestly a really important message, especially to me, because if I had listened to what everyone said about what I should do with my life, I would not be writing this right now, I would not be working towards living in a van, and I would not be starting my own businesses.

I Saw Your Mommy (1993)
This isn’t really a political song or anything like that, but it is mainly a funny song that is supposed to be fun. It’s about the narrator seeing “your” mommy dead and cut up on the floor somewhere. I think I like this song mainly because it is so weird and has the Suicidal Tendencies vibe that goes along with it. It is a very calm song and that adds to how ironic and funny the song is. I also just like how the song sounds and the overall vibe of the song.
So, overall, I do like this band, but I would not really listen to their music on a daily basis. I feel like I have to be in a certain mood to want to listen to this kind of music. I do not think that they have a lot of music that I can get into, but they do have several songs that I do really enjoy a lot. I can appreciate the music that this band has to offer, and I like that a lot of other people love it.
The next band that I will be reviewing for Music Tuesday is Anthrax! I have not heard any of their songs and I do not really even know what kind of music they make, so I am really excited to listen to all of it and find out what they make. I am going to try and be more consistent with posting Music Tuesday posts, since this one took so long to come out.
If you have any bands that you would like to suggest to me to listen to for a Music Tuesday in the future, please leave a comment with the name of the band!
