Vambulance: Week 2

Hello! Welcome back to another very exciting vambulance post. We made a lot of progress this weekend and I’m really excited to share it with you all. Also, I actually bought a GoPro, so I will be able to do a lot of different fun things with my videos now. I will also be able to directly stream to Twitch from the GoPro, so if you guys wanted to follow me on there, since I will be streaming more frequently now, here is the link:

This weekend we wanted to accomplish the following:

  • Install new side view mirrors
  • Remove more decals
  • Take all inside light lenses home to be cleaned
  • Vacuum everything

What we actually did accomplish is the following:

  • Got tires checked
  • Made a tire appointment for next Saturday (oops)
  • Got batteries, alternators, and starter checked

It turned out to be super cold this weekend, so we already knew that it would not help the decal work. Since we were using the heat gun for the decals, and the heat from the sun helps a lot, we decided against doing any more of that this weekend. However, there were a couple other things we could do that were not outside and cold, so we went to do them.

I’m going to be honest with you guys and tell you that I totally forgot to take any pictures, but I will still include pictures of the ambulance.

Oops! Sorry!

First, we went to go pick the ambulance up. I drove it all around today which was really nice because I know I need driving lessons with this big box of a vehicle. I really do enjoy driving it. I was scared of driving it in the beginning, but once I did it for the first time I realized it was just a bigger car. It has been really fun to drive it around, even though my dad says I take turns too quickly (I didn’t think so haha).

First, we went to Discount Tire to get all 6 tires checked. We knew they were at least 6 years old, so that wasn’t fantastic, but we wanted to know what some professionals thought about driving on them. It turns out one of them is 7 years old, and the two inside tires on the back axle were almost completely bald. The employee we were working with convinced us that we needed new tires.

We wanted some light terrain tires we decided. We didn’t want all terrain tires because those apparently make a lot of noise on the highway, and I would mostly be driving on the highway. We also got a second quote from Costco, and those tires were double the price. We decided to go with Discount Tire.

I’m pretty sure these are similar to the kind of tires we are getting.

The tires that we wanted were not in stock, so we made an appointment to come back really early the next Saturday. I’m excited to have new tires, and it’ll make me feel a lot better. I had no idea those inside tires were bald, and that was probably done by the auction house who sold us to it so they didn’t have to buy new tires for it. I’m not excited to spend the money for new tires, but I am excited to be much safer on the road.

After that whole ordeal, we picked up some food to bring home and made our way to O’Reilly. We met a really nice guy there who checked the batteries, alternators, and starter. This is when we found out the ambulance has two alternators, one for the motor battery and one for the batteries that connect to the house part. That was pretty interesting.

Here is another picture my mom took before we actually bought the ambulance.

Everything there checked out really good, so that made us happy. After that, we took the ambulance back to storage, and went back home. In hindsight, I could’ve taken all of the inside light lenses home to clean, but that was not on my mind at the time. We were very happy to be home earlier than we had been last weekend, so that was mainly on my mind.

Me, happy we got to go home early.

That’s actually it for this week, we spent the next weekend day spending time together, and I did a lot of homework. It didn’t really feel like a very productive weekend, but I know that it was. This upcoming weekend is going to be warmer, so we will be able to get a few more decals off hopefully. I’m excited to do those, because finishing that means we can get the ambulance painted!

That’s all from me for now, so thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I appreciate every one of you. I have some really exciting things coming up, so stick around for those! (If you want to)

Thanks for reading!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you noticed how enthusiastic I am about all of this, because it’s very exciting and I want my readers to be as excited as I am! I’ve been trying to take better pictures and more pictures for the posts. The tires are alright, I expected to have a few big expenses when buying this vehicle. Thank you for commenting!

  2. That’s a good looking tire. Fairly aggressive for dirt, yet still good for asphalt. Yokohama is consistently one of the top brands. Your new tires should serve you well. 🙂
Good job getting a GoPro! I can’t wait to see more photos of everything you’re doing.
I really admire how far you’ve come with your dream!
