Art 101: Session 9

Hello and welcome back to another art post. This is where I share what I’ve been doing in my college art class recently. This is another perspective session, and if you did not already know, I do not like these. Perspective is difficult for me, and I did not like doing these more technical sessions.

However, I still want to share all of my progress both with you guys and so I have a way to track my progress over the years. I don’t really like how this one came out, but I think I can do better in the future and I’m glad I tried it.

This session is a continuation of last session where we drew a table in one point perspective, and boxes in two point perspective. If you do not know what those are, please look them up because I am not good at giving explanations in words haha. This session we did more boxes, and both the boxes and the table were supposed to be drawn in two point perspective.

I had to tape all of the boxes together because, even though they weren’t falling over, they were still leaning a lot. I knew this would make it more difficult to draw, so I had to fix that.

Also, like last session, we did not have to complete this drawing, we only had to do a sketch. I really procrastinated on this session, even though I knew it would not take that long or be that difficult.

We had to sketch the table first and photo document that, so that picture is below. I had a lot of trouble with this part, since I like to draw what I think I see and not what I actually see. It’s difficult for me to grasp the concept of how none of the tilted lines are really parallel in this perspective, which made it really difficult.

I also drew out proportion lines of all the boxes and the table before drawing anything to help the proportion be more accurate. These are also visible in the picture below.

Here is the finished table. I was glad it was only a sketch so I didn’t have to add many details. That would’ve taken a lot longer.

The bottom box was the most difficult to draw, but the rest of the boxes turned out to be pretty easy. I like that you can tell that eye level in this picture is in the middle of the paper. I like that I captured that part well enough for it to be apparent.

I definitely know I could do a better job if I redid this and spent more time on getting all of the proportions and angles right, but I just did not want to work on this anymore. I do want to redo this in the future, but I am not really looking forward to it.

Here is the finished sketch. I don’t think it looks very accurate, but at least I tried a little haha.

Anyhow, that is it for this short quick session. I did not like doing this at all, but maybe I will like it more after I practice and get better at it. Let me know what you think in a comment down below! I always like to read your comments, and I try to reply to every single one.

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I really appreciate it, and I am excited to keep cranking out content for you guys. I have something pretty exciting coming out next week, probably on Tuesday, so look out for that! Thanks for reading!

P.S. Here are the promised pictures of Jack, our cat. I’m going to put these at the end of every art post, since I love him so much adn I think you guys deserve to see him in all of his cute glory.

Here he is laying in his little bed, with my dad petting him. I love how his little feet stick out.
Here he is again in his little bed. I like how he looks like he’s about to dive in a pool, or how he looks like a shrimp. I will include a reference picture after this haha.

  1. I think you did great on the perspective drawing. Must have been fun and frustrating both, to get everything stacked up. Jack is adorable… and he gets a bed and blanket both… lucky cat!

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah, it was mostly frustrating haha but a little fun as well. I’m glad it’s over with, but I know if I want to get good at art I will have to practice that again eventually. He is very lucky haha and he has no idea. Thank you for commenting!
