The Return of Music Tuesday!

Hello! This is the Return of Music Tuesday! Music Tuesday is a series of posts I used to have on my blog where every week, I would listen to every single song a band had, and I would then review the band and rank my top 3 favorite albums and songs.

I realized at the end of doing those posts that I bit off more than I could chew and listening to every single song from a band in a week was a lot of work, especially for a band like Metallica who has over 20 hours of music to listen to.

However, I don’t want to completely get rid of Music Tuesday, and I still want to keep writing about music. I love music and how it makes me feel, and I do want to go to a lot of festivals in the future. I want to listen to all of that music and also write about it and share my opinions, so I am bringing it back!

So, I will be changing how Music Tuesday works. It will now just be a general review of the music I listened to in the past week. I will sometimes focus on certain bands or genres, but it definitely will not be as thourough for one band as it used to be.

I am making this post to update you guys on the future of Music Tuesday, but I also wanted to talk about the music I’ve been listening to the past week. I really want to start listening to more music, but I haven’t been driving as much and that is usualyl when I listen to the music.

Band Review πŸ™‚

The first band that I want to talk about this week is called Cradle of Filth. They are from Suffolk, England, and were formed in 1991. I have heard about them before since I’ve seen shirts of theirs that I’ve really liked, but I had never listened to their music before. I only really knew that they were metal music, but not what kind of metal specifically or what they were all about.

Cradle Of Filth

Here is what I thought about Cradle of Filth: I really like it, but the music is not at all what I expected. I expected heavy, grindy death metal, but it turned out to be more choral and orchestral than I expected. There definitely are still a lot of heavy metal grindy parts, but they’re mixed in with everything else.

The songs are pretty long, so there is a little bit of everything in each song. I am not sure that I like that, since I usually am in the mood to listen to some of those parts, but not all of them. On average, all of the songs are over 5 minutes, which I would’ve expected if I knew it was more orchestral, because metal is like that, such as black metal (they aren’t death metal lol) has a lot more orchestral parts like that.

There is a little bit of debate online about whether they are death metal or black metal, but I think they are a little bit of both. If you don’t know what either of those are, I’ll explain it the best I can.

Black metal is usually very religous, has more orchestral parts, is a little more choral, and is more scream-y. It usually has to do more with the melody and the instruments than the whole feel together. I’ve also found that it is sometimes easier to understand the lyrics in black metal better than death metal. I’ve also noticed that black metal bands have much longer songs than normal, ranging from 5 minutes to 12 minutes long, while the average song is usually around 2 to 4 minutes.

Death metal is my favorite of the two. This is more grind-y, heavier metal than black metal. There is a lot less orchestral, choral elements, which I am usually a fan of. They also tend to have more guttural vocals, which I also like. This does make it a bit harder to understand the lyrics, but I’m alright with that. They also have more average 3 minute songs.

So, my overall thoughts on Cradle of Filth is that I like them, but not enough to listen to them every day and have favorite songs. I don’t think I would listen to them very frequently, but I do think that I would hit shuffle occasionally and listen to them while doing something else like driving, or some homework thing.

Archgoat

The second band that I listened to a bit this week is a band called Archgoat. Archgoat is from Finland and were formed in 1989. I had never heard of this band before this week, but I saw this post on Instagram, and really wanted to check them out. I really love the gauntlet all of the band members are wearing on their arms, and I would love to own one eventually.

I did not listen to this band as much, so this review will be a lot shorter. As I was listening to this band, I realized they were a lot more black metal than Cradle of Filth. Some of their songs are a lot more of the style I like, but most of their songs are pretty fast and thrash, which I am not that into.

They are still doing tours, which is very exciting that I might be able to see them in person someday. I also absolutely love how they dress, if that wasn’t already apparent haha. I would really like to see them in concert even though I’m not in love with some of their music, because I know I would enjoy the atmosphere and the music anyways.

I didn’t end up listening to much other music, besides an Aftershock 2022 playlist, which I will be talking about in a future Music Tuesday post. I will link the playlist below, if any of you are interested in listening to it.

So, that is all I have for you this week. I plan on doing one of these posts every Tuesday, and I hope I can keep up with that. Also, I will be alternating between special Music Tuesday posts and general music review posts, so be on the lookout for that. I’m really excited to start listening to a lot of music again and writing about it. I really enjoyed making this post, and I hope you all enjoyed reading it!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I appreciate all of you sticking around, and I will see you guys in the next one!

  1. Although I am not interested in this type of music, I respect your choices, and I admire how you really seem to get into the music, and are good at describing it, and the way it makes you feel. Hope fans of this music get to read your blog!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m really glad you feel that way, and I definitely understand why people don’t like this kind of music. I’m also glad you think I’m good at describing it, mainly because I think I have a hard time describing it haha. Thank you for commenting!
