Art 101: Session 11

Hello! Here is yet another art post. I actually liked how these drawings turned out, even though it was still perspective drawing, which I do not like.

For this session, we had to choose a room in our house to draw, and I chose the kitchen because it had the least amount of stuff to draw in it. We had to draw this area in both one point and two point perspective. I was not excited for this at all, since I knew it was going to take a while.

Here is the reference picture of the kitchen that I started with.

I also streamed the second drawing in this session, which was interesting. I don’t really like streaming while I do art, since I like to watch videos and stay quiet while I draw, but I know I have to do it if I want to gain a following on Twitch haha.

It was a little hard to get the right angle on the kitchen, and to draw all of the straight lines, but it wasn’t that bad doing this. It definitely wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. That seems to be a theme with these drawings that I do not want to do.

Here is the first draft of the first drawing. I like how it turned out, which is surprising.

After we drew the scene, we had to add “atmospheric perspective” which is when you make the parts of the drawing that are closest to you darker, and the parts that are furthest away lighter. This is supposed to convey more depth and atmosphere.

I tried to do my first draft in a more medium tone, so I wouldn’t have to go over completely everything when adding the atmospheric perspective. I think this was a good strategy because then all I had to do was erase the lighter parts and add a bit to the darker parts.

Here is the finished first drawing. I still really like how it turned out, which is rare.

I did the same thing with the second drawing, the only thing that was different was that this drawing is in two point perspective instead of one point perspective. I think I like this better than the first drawing, but I am not sure.

Here is the reference for the second drawing. The drawing did not really turn out like the reference haha.

I do not have a picture of the first draft of this drawing. I did spend less time on this drawing than the first one, and I did put a lot less effort into some of the components. I do know that I could do better if I tried again and put more effort into it, but I’m not sure when I will get around to that.

I do think this was my favorite perspective session out of all of them, and that is saying something. I really do not want to do the other perspective sessions again, but I think that just means I should do them even more for the practice.

Here is the finished second drawing in two point perspective.

Anywho, that is all for this art post. Thank you all so much for reading and supporting my journey. I appreciate all of you who take the time to read my blog posts, and I do try to put a lot of effort into them.

Here I am in the middle of my hair appointment, after getting highlights. The next art post will have a picture of me further along in the process haha.

P.S. Here are the promised picture of Jack! I love him so much. I feel like I have been getting closer with him over the past couple of months, and that is so exciting. He has always had a lot of anxiety since he was abused as a kitten, and I was a kid when we got him so I did not see much value in forming a close relationship with him at the time.

Here he is looking all cute in his little bed. I like how all of his feet are right next to each other, like he is about to go diving.

  1. Wow… the whole kitchen? A lot of work! Not sure I understand the idea behind the faded area, though. 1 point, 2 point… don’t know what that means. When are you going to draw Jack? Haha

    1. Yeah it was a lot of work. The faded area is supposed to convey the depth of the area, instead of leaving it all the same and it feeling flat. It is pretty complicated! Haha, that would be much harder, but I might end up doing that in the future! Thank you for commenting!
