Art 101: Session 12

Hello! Here is yet another art post from my college art class. We are almost halfway through all of the sessions, so good job for getting through them this far! Disclaimer before we really get into this: I really do not like this session or how it turned out. The next session is similar, but more fun.

Anywho, this session was all about negative space. I origianlly thought this was interesting and fun, but I did not really like doing it. I do think that this would be better and more fun with more complicated objects that have more details against the background. I might do this in the future, and I hope I remember to have more complicated objects this time.

This first part included about 5 items put on a table and then we had to draw only the negative space, so the space where the objects were not. I really had a hard time deciding where all of my objects should go, and I’ve realized that I definitely do not have a knack for arranging objects nicely.

Here is the reference picture of the first part. There is a little chapstick and a controller in the bottom of it, but you cannot really tell.

I also streamed doing this first part, and that was my first art stream that got a lot of traction which was very exciting. I actually haven’t streamed since I think, but I do want to get into it. I know that I say that a lot haha.

I accidentally used bigger paper than I was supposed to, which meant that I used a lot more graphite than was necessary. This hurt my arm haha and was no fun. I eventually got it done though, and my hand was covered in graphite.

Here is the first finished drawing. The mirror in the middle looks a little creepy.

This did end up taking a while, but that was only because of my mistake with the big paper. I ended up using more materials than I would have liked, which was a little sad.

I used the three blue pencils on the left the most, clearly haha.

I kept a little pile of my pencil shavings next to myself, since I had no trash can nearby and did not want to keep getting up. It ended up getting bigger than it ever had before, which was satisfying at the time.

I had to keep sharpening my pencil, which I had never had to really do before.

Here are all of my filming materials that I used. I just bought a GoPro, and I am very happy to be using it for things like streaming. I really love it and I am happy with my purchase, even though it was a pretty big one.

I love how all of the equipment looks with each other haha.

That is all I have for you this week, thank you so much for reading! Every person who reads my posts supports my journey, even if all you do is glance at it. Thank you all so much, and I hope I can continue to entertain you all for years to come.

Here is my new hair! I love it!

P.S. Here are the amazing promised pictures of Jack. I love him so much.

Here he is sleeping in the very cool fort I made him with my drawing table.
Here is another of the same picture, just closer. I love him so much.

    1. Thank you so much! First, I have to get up the motivation to stream. I was thinking of doing some different kinds of streams soon, but they wouldn’t be very interesting to many people I think. Thank you for commenting!

  1. That’s a little different than your other assignments. Not as much fun. Guess you have to do what they say…haha
You must get covered in charcoal dust! I think it turned out very well.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, haha, I do have to do what they say or my grade will suffer. I end up washing my hands throughout the whole process several times just so I don’t mess up any part of the drawing by accidentally touching it and getting black marks on it. I know that me and my room end up getting covered in dust! Thank you for commenting!

    1. Yeah, you can either go to the website or use the app, but I can explain it more the next time I see you. Thank you, I like it a lot too! I do wish it was brighter though, since there is still a lot of brown in it. Thank you for commenting!
