Music Tuesday: Khemmis and Mastodon Concert!

Hello! Welcome to another Music Tuesday post! I know it isn’t Tuesday, but I do have a bit of a schedule for posts, and this one was late. I didn’t want to mess up my schedule, so here it is on a Sunday! This is all about another concert that I went to with my mom. This time the two bands playing were Khemmis and Mastodon.

I will be trying to lay out these kinds of posts in a more organized way, just so I can have more structure to my posts and they aren’t all over the place. I know that a lot of you probably don’t really care about that, but I still like to keep you guys in the loop. This post will be structured (hopefully) like this: why we went, how I felt about the music beforehand, each band itself, how I felt about the concert overall, and final thoughts.

My mom and I before the show! It’s hard to take pictures here, because of both the lighting and how crowded it is haha.

Why We Went

We kind of only went to this concert in particular on a whim, mostly because I had heard of Mastodon before and wanted to see what they were about. I hadn’t heard of Khemmis before, but I was willing to see them live.

The tickets to this concert were pretty cheap, so that was a big factor as well. If it was two bands I hadn’t ever listened to that had expensive tickets, then I would not have wanted to go.

I hadn’t ever listened to Mastodon before this, but I definitely wanted to listen to them eventually. I figured this was as good an opportunity as ever to start listening to them. I really do have a problem with listening to new music so I figured basically focing myself to listen to them by going to this concert would be a good start.

This was the stage before either of the bands started. I like the color scheme of this picture.

Pre – Concert Music Opinions

We did listen to both bands the day of and on the way to the concert. Neither of them were really my favorite kind of music, but it was still good. I thought they sounded pretty similar to each other, which makes sense since they were doing a tour together.

I probably wouldn’t listen to their music on the daily, but I do like it a lot. It is in the realm of music I like, so I was happy with that. I also have really started to appreciate the creation and performance of music recently. I used to listen to music just because “oh wow sounds cool” but now I can really appreciate all the time and effort that is put into the music and the craft.

I know a lot of the pictures I take aren’t great, but they’re the best I’m gonna get for now. This is Khemmis performing.

Khemmis

As you know, prior to this concert, I had no idea who Khemmis even was. I expected the usual, middle aged, long haired dudes that did their thing on stage. That actually turned out to be pretty wrong, though.

They were all pretty young and I was really surprised. They put on a really good performance, and I did like the music. The music did seem similar to Mastodon’s music from what I heard, but that just makes sense as to why they were touring with each other.

I do think I would see them again live, but I doubt that I would really listen to them on a daily basis. Their music isn’t bad, it’s just not really my favorite thing.

Mastodon

I had heard of Mastodon before this, but I didn’t really know what to expect. Besides listening to a few of their songs right before the show, that was all I knew. They actually put on a really amazing show, including the music, light show, and the performance in general.

Here you can see the screens in the back and on the front of the steps on the stage.

They had a huge screen behind them and screens on the front of all of the steps on the stage as well. The whole time, they played really cool graphics that I think related to the song they were playing at the time (not sure about this since it’s hard to hear the lyrics haha).

They also had smoke pouring out onto the stage which made everything look even more cool. I have been to a few shows like this, but none where I was so close to the stage. I would definitely want to see them live again just because they put on such a good show.

Here you can see the lights passing through the fog. I love that haha it looked so cool.

Overall Concert Thoughts

This was a really fun concert overall, and if I had the choice to do it again, I definitely would. I really liked both bands and I’m glad I got to see them live.

If I do have a chance in the future to see them again, I will definitely be taking that.

I made my mom take some pictures in the parking garage before we went in, and this was our serious one haha.

This concert in particular was at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, and I really like that venue. I like the whole vibe and I feel pretty comfortable there since I’ve been a few times before.

We did stand near the front, but not on the rails. I don’t mind not standing at the very front, but it is my very favorite place to be if I am not in the pit.

Here we are with our happy picture before the concert.

Final Thoughts

I had a really good time at this concert, but I also do not think that I will really be listening to either of these band’s music outside of seeing them live. That’s really all I have to say this time around, so I’m going to wrap it up here.

Here is the only picture I took after the concert. I know it’s super blurry but I didn’t check the quality after I took it haha. I like it a lot though!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey! I appreciate every single one of you that reads my posts, it really means a lot to me. I will be coming out with more consistent posts, so I will see you soon in the next one!

My mom and I before we left for the concert! I like this picture a lot haha.
