Music Tuesday – What The Heck Have I Been Listening To?!

Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve made one of these posts, so you’d think I have a lot to talk about. However, I don’t really have a whole lot of music that I’ve been listening to but I’ll also be telling you guys about some new posts that are coming up. I will be splitting this post into sections to make it easier to read. Those sections will be: Music I’ve Been Listening To, Spotify Wrapped and Listening in General, and Future Posts and Plans.

Music I’ve Been Listening To

I recently discovered that I really like a genre called Bedroom Pop. I found a playlist on Spotify of a whole bunch of these songs, and when I started listening to that on a road trip, I found out that I really liked a lot of the songs. Some of the songs I found have actually been my favorite songs this month.

Bedroom pop used to mean sultry, indie-pop, but now it has expanded to every genre that someone produces from their bedroom. I do think that the playlist I listened to was mostly the sultry, indie-pop kind of music. I honestly had never heard of this genre before, and I found it by realizing one of my previous favorite songs was also on this playlist. I will link this playlist at the end of this section so you guys can check it out.

I’ve honestly fallen in love with this genre and I really love listening to it. I did sleep through part of the playlist during the road trip, and I did not get to finish the whole playlist but I would like to go through all of it to see if I can find any other songs that I end up loving.

I really love a lot of the lyrics and messages that these songs have, and the overall vibe of so many of these songs is just impeccable. I have heard songs like this in the past and knew that I liked them, but I honestly did not know there was a whole genre and was not too concerned with finding it at the time.

I did also make a playlist of all of the songs I’ve been really liking this month, so I will also link that at the end of this section. It’s not as long or as comprehensive as I’d like, since I did start it halfway through the month already, but I absolutely love the concept. I hope to do this for months to come, especially since I think it would be cool to look back at these playlists in the years to come and rediscover some of the music I’m listening to now.

Additionally, I also ended up listening to a bit of a Thanksgiving playlist that Spotify had made, and frankly hated it. I will be making a post eventually about that playlist, since I do want to review all kinds of holiday music subjectively. I’m not sure when I will be posting it, but it will be soon. I’ll also be linking that playlist so you guys can check it out for yourselves.

Spotify Wrapped and Listening in General

Every year at the end of November, Spotify puts together a little slideshow of your favorite artists and songs of the year, how many minutes you listened, gives you your own Top 100 Songs of 2022 playlist, etc. Mine was honestly a little disappointing this year, for a few reasons. If you are not interested in those reasons, you can definitely skip over the next few paragraphs haha. I will also be linking that playlist at the end of this section if any of you would like to check it out.

I did start using this account in about April, so it wasn’t tracking my listening for the whole year. I also used to do this thing where I would go to the profile of a local band that I wanted to support and play their music all night without listening to it, just to give them a boost in their stats. I did decide not to do that anymore pretty soon after starting to listen, but it still really affected the results of my Wrapped. They were my top artist and also my top 5 favorite songs were all from them. I usually really look forward to seeing my Wrapped, so this year I definitely want to not do that and only listen to music that I actually like.

Another reason I didn’t like my Wrapped so much was because I listened to way less music than I thought I did. I want to be listening to lots of music every day, but this was just not the case. I want to listen to lots of new songs and artists and expand my taste in music and make lots more playlists to share with people and to look back on in the future.

The reason I listened to less music than I wanted to is because I need the right environment to listen to music in. I usually only listen to music while I drive since I can still actually listen to the music while doing something else. I don’t like to listen to music while I study or write posts, because it distracts me. I also don’t like listening to music before bed or in the shower, since I could be watching YouTube videos during those times, and that is more entertaining to me. I do think I will try to listen to more music in the shower instead of videos to listen to more music in the future. I’m not sure how that will go, though. I would also rather watch videos when exercising instead of listening to music, so that doesn’t happen either.

I also spend a lot of time with my parents or with friends, so I can’t listen to music then, either. I do want to take my headphones with me when I go on errands, but I barely ever go on errands alone. I would like to start going on more of my own errands alone, and then I could have time for myself and also listen to my music at the same time.

I do really love music and I absolutely love making new playlists and finding new artists, but for some reason it is just really hard for me to find the time to do that. I want to make it a resolution to listen to more music next year, and I do think I will be driving more this year so I will be listening to more music that way anyways.

Future Music Post Plans

Since I want to listen to and review more holiday music playlists, I will be doing a Christmas one this upcoming month, and I may even branch into other winter holidays as well. I will also be posting my Thanksgiving playlist review soon, and I am excited for that. I had honestly never tried to listen to any Thanksgiving music before, so I was pretty surprised with what I found.

I will also belatedly be posting about my Riot Fest and Aftershock experiences soon. I have been working on them a little bit, but I am now motivated to finish them. I also went to a festival called Escape Halloween recently, but I am not sure if I want to write about that or not just yet since it is so different from what I usually write about.

I have also been to a few concerts that I have not yet written about, so I will be posting those eventually as well. I definitely have enough content to last at least 2 months, and will be doing more and listening to more in the meantime so hopefully I will never run out of things to talk about.

I will be trying to stick to my previous weekly schedule of three posts a week. Music Tuesday posts on Tuesday, Reviews on Friday, and Concert/Festival Experiences on Sundays. I do know that this post was a day late, but better late than never right? I know that if I just skipped it I would have gotten out of the groove I’m in and that wouldn’t have been good.

Anyways, that’s all I have to talk about today, so I hope you guys enjoyed it! I make a What The Heck Am I Listening To every other Tuesday! Thank you all so much for reading my blog post and supporting my journey. I appreciate it immensely and I will see you guys in the next one!
