Ambulance – General Plans

Hello everyone! I have been thinking about the ambulance a lot lately and what I want to do with it. It has been a while since I worked on that, and I don’t like that. I should be working on it all the time if I want to get it finished, and I finally have some things I think would be great to start on, and some new plans that I can work off on.

I did a lot of thinking and realized that a lot of the things I would like to do to the ambulance or have inside of it would not be possible with the existing setup. There are also some things about the existing setup that I really do not like and would not want to live with.

The cabinets are all awful with doors that don’t open all the way, and it’s really hard to clean the whole inside of them, or even put medium sized things in a lot of them. I don’t want to live with this and want to make my own cabinets as a result of this. That would mean I could design my cabinets to be exactly how I want them and with plenty of room to store any type of thing. I also believe this would help it feel a lot more like home if all of the cabinetry and other various furniture inside the ambulance was something I either made or picked out myself.

I would also love to put in my own insulation, my own electrical system, and add plumbing to the back of the ambulance. I doubt there is any insulation in the walls right now, and if there is some, I assume it is very little. I don’t want to be unnecessarily cold or hot anywhere I am, and good insulation will be amazing for this. I also want to make my own electrical system that can power everything I want to do. The current electrical system is connected to the engine, and I don’t want my electrical system connected to the engine at all. Additionally, I would like to make my own system so I can repair every part of it myself, I know exactly what components I have, and I know exactly how every part of it works. My toilet that I will be using does not require any plumbing since it is just a composting toilet, but I do want to have a little bit of a plumbing system connected to a faucet for washing my hands and dishes and also connected to a shower spout at the back of the ambulance.

The day this post is being uploaded, Monday the 6th, I will be going to the ambulance for the first time in a while to start it, run it for a while, and do some brainstorming. I want to measure every single thing on the inside and the outside of the ambulance, complete with taking pictures of everything I am measuring as well, and use that to brainstorm different layouts of stuff I want in my van that are possible. This is also going to be helpful when I am not near the ambulance and have ideas, but previously would’ve had no measurements. It would be amazing to be able to design the whole space myself so I can really make it work for me and what I want it for.

I hope that I can work enough on the ambulance in the beginning of this year that I am able to live in it very soon. This month, I plan on working on it like a job, with regular hours and a set schedule so I can actually get closer to achieving my goals. I know that I have been slacking off, and now that I am done with school I hope I can get a lot done in the time that I have.

Thank you so much for reading my blog post, and there will be another one soon. See you then!

  1. WOO! The Ambulance is back! I totally agree about doing your own design and installation of things to learn more about them and make them more “yours”. I can’t wait to see some before/after photos. Thanks for the post!
